Camera technology

With our deep knowledge in optics and image sensor technology our camera technology experts can offer services spanning the entire chain from lens to full camera system. We can also combine this with advanced image analysis like object detection and stereoscopic 3D. This unique breadth in competence enables the development of optimized camera systems for many custom applications.

Courses
Our expertise also enables us to offer courses spanning over everything from optical design to image quality assessment. Courses can be anywhere from a few hours in length up to several days. We offer public as well as company internal courses. Examples of topics for which we can offer courses are:

  • Image sensor technology: basics, characterization and measurements, applications
  • Fundamental optics
  • Imaging technology
  • Image quality: subjective and objective methods, correlation between perceived and measured quality, practical aspects on lab design, etc
  • Modeling of camera systems: visualization of results from measurements, image processing, etc.

Cameras for the consumer market

Many of today’s consumer products contain a camera. Whether it is a cellphone, UAV , surveillance camera or a toy, the image captured by the camera must be optimized for the application. This requires knowledge of optics, image sensor technology as well as image processing, but also of methods used for measuring image quality. With our broad and deep knowledge in this field we can handle the most varying problems.

Automotive

Cameras in vehicles is becoming a major application for optics and will only increase as we move closer to realizing truly autonomous vehicles. The environmental and image quality requirements for these cameras are very demanding and the images are in many cases not intended for humans. This places different and often higher demands on the cameras compared to, for instance, the consumer market.

Life science

Automated image analysis is taking over many tasks that used to be done manually. For this to enable a more efficient and safer health care, cameras and other optical instruments will need to have the correct specifications.

Security and surveillance

The ever-expanding need for increased personal safety has crowded the public space with cameras, but other applications, like fire monitoring, also require a camera. In these applications it may not only be visible light that is of interest. Our experience spans the whole range from ultraviolet to long wave infrared for illumination as well as camera systems.
