Eclipse worked together with Profoto to develop the flash optics in the A1 — the world’s smallest studio flash. The A1 has been very well received by professional photographers worldwide for its smooth, round light quality.

Challenge: Design a lens that creates a smooth, round light output across multiple focal distances, within the compact form factor of the world’s smallest studio flash.
Our contribution: Non-sequential optical design using free-form optics.
